Search and Declutter
What's up, guys! It's me, Emmy! Our community is still under quarantine so I'm not yet allowed to go out. Of course, I cannot just simply stare at our ceiling 'til the end of the day; I don't want to start seeing things that I don't want to see. I decided to do what I call Operation: Search and Declutter. It's been months since the last time I cleaned and fixed the room; our room starts to have a miniature version of the Smokey Mountain in Manila, Philippines.
It's sorting time!
MY GASH ABELGASH
No, I didn't make it look messy on purpose; I'm too busy with the online exams to fix them.
I started off with our closet. I realized that I have too many clothes inside. Dad, too, has SOOOOOO MANY shirts that he doesn't use (that's why I'm kind of mad at him; he always compels me to tidy-up the closet but he won't let me touch his clothes)! 'Ya feel me? Tha's good! Anyway; I started to withdraw my clothes from the closet and placed them on top of dad's bed (it's a low-key protest). Then, I sorted them out into three: to closet, to donations, to rags. I didn't have much that effort in choosing what to put inside the closet, as anything that was left from the sorting was put back inside the closet. In choosing what to donate, I chose what is dull or unappealing for me but is still in perfect condition. It would be a waste if I'll just turn them into rags. This is what I like with decluttering; you get to have a clean and comfortable living space while being able to give to the needy. If something doesn't spark joy to you, then it might spark joy to others. Shoutout to Ms. Marie Kondo; if you're reading this, thank you very much! I have to admit though that I didn't apply your minimalist approach in decluttering.
The clothes to be donated.
For the rags, I chose the most unappealing and depreciated-looking shirts I have. I don't want to take a pic of it anymore. You might say, "Emmy, you're still wearing this? Seriously?" Duh, it's what you call recycling! After decluttering, I also found my old uniforms from Senior High that I may sell. I made our room comfier, I will be able to give to the needy, I will also be able to earn money. Oh, how productive decluttering is! I might as well advise you to do the same.
This is my part of the cabinet. It looks a tidier than before. If only I remembered to take pre-decluttering pictures you should have seen the chaos. The unspeakable chaos.
After the closet, it's time to deal with my bed and side table. Aside from the closet, this is one of the hardest things/spaces for me to tidy-up, only next to my study table (DON'T DARE TO ASK A PICTURE OF IT). You know that feeling of getting comfortable with your personal spaces getting messy? It's like, why should I fix them if it doesn't cause me any trouble? 'Ya feel me? Ver' good. For the sake of productivity, I have to do it. First, I sorted again the items in and on my side table: books, notebooks, school papers, scratch papers, and other chattels. It's a torture for me to sort the school papers; I can see my failed quizzes and tests and the expensive tuition fee at the same time. Bachelor of Science in Accountancy is indeed not an easy college program. Drama aside; after I sorted the "residents" of my side table, I threw all of the unnecessary papers and magazines. On top, I placed my college textbooks, notebooks, and other chattels. On the bottom, I placed the music sheets, archived school papers, and scratch papers.
After the side table, it's time to fix the bed. It's been two weeks since the last time I changed my sheets and it's getting itchy below the knee. I chose a tight-fitting bed sheet for the mal need of fixing every morning. For the pillowcase, I chose dark blue (except for the one with grayish blue; we only have two dark blues) to match the black-and-mauve floral design of the bedsheet. For the blanket, I chose a maroon-red-and-white floral blanket.
This is my bed and side table after. Improvements, yes.
Decluttering is very rewarding work, indeed. You get to make your personal spaces clean and tidy, you get to help others by giving things that you don't need, you also get to earn money by selling valuable goods. This can help you to be productive in days like this. I advise you to learn how to declutter. Who knows, you might be the next Marie Kondo or better!
