Search and Declutter Part 2
Hi, netizens! Today, I continued my Operation: Search and Declutter. This time, it's my study table that I decided to clean up. I wasn't able to do the O: S&D in one day because I have to do more important house chores; besides, I want to do different chores every day so I won't get bored of doing the same chores, thus I decided to distribute the work throughout the days of the week. Am I just making an excuse so I won't be doing a lot in a day? Not really; in fact, if I'm not doing any house chores, I'm reviewing our past lessons in college. Yes, you read that right. I am a dedicated Accountancy student. ;-)
Going back; so it's my study table's turn to be cleaned. Of all the things/spaces here in our house, my study table is the thing that I clean the rarest. There are lots of stuff here, jumbled in unspeakable chaos inside each drawer. There's no segregation; it's mostly like a what-fits-in-without-destroying-others-is-in way of putting things inside the drawer. The 10-year worth of dust already took over some of the not-so-important items. The important and not important things are mixed together, just like your mind if you're indecisive between what you want and what you need. It's so messy that I sometimes don't venture to open it; I don't even know if there are already new lifeforms in its drawers.
At first, I was hesitant to start cleaning it; thanks to the boredom brought by the quarantine and the call of self-efficacy, I was able to push myself. Before cleaning, I think of what I want my table to look after I clean it; that way, I won't get tired of thinking where to put this and that while cleaning. Then, I proceeded on removing each drawer and its content and start removing dust from it.
I removed the main drawer first. I saw some important documents and historical files. I felt nostalgic as I look at the historical items I found.
After the main drawer, I proceeded to the three side drawers. These are the messiest; the main drawer contains papers and some bits o' stuff so It's not that time-consuming to clean. The side drawers, however, are full of dusty knick-knacks so it's a challenge to clean them.
This is my study table. The empty slot there is for the main drawer. There's a retractable side desk above the top side drawer This is a very old table; I don't know but I think it's an antique item. My dad restored for me.
One of the side drawers. There is an old, defunct calculator and also a drawstring bag which I made in Elementary. There are also old bottles of poster paint and an unused stapler. The old calendar pages were used as liners for the drawers. The drawers on the back are being air-dried; I used a wet cloth to remove the dust.
After cleaning the drawers, It's now time to sort the items that will be put inside. For that, I divided it into four sections: Papers, Cards, and Rulers; Writing and Drawing; Cutting and Binding; Electronics and Others; Discarded. Under the Papers, Card, and Rulers are important documents (old and new, school and personal), educational charts, photos, prayer books and pamphlets, plastic cards, bookmarks, and rulers. Under Writing and Drawing section are pencil, pens, markers, highlighters, erasers, and sharpeners. Cutting and Binding includes scissors, cutters, hole punchers, glues, adhesive tapes, clips, binders, and staplers. Under Electronics and Others are small gadgets, USB chords, old watches, keychains, pins, and small trinkets. For the Discarded, well, anything I don't consider important.
Papers, Card, and Rulers will go in the main drawer. The main drawer has the space to accommodate the files without damaging it. There's also a baby picture of me and my childhood friend. Hhhmmm... Where he might be right now? I wonder if he still remembers me? There are also the Timezone cards and our Senior High School's Music Club stickers that I got from Grade 11. The ribbon is from an 18th birthday/debut invitation from a classmate.
The top side drawer will contain Writing and Drawing materials. I wasn't able to remove that piece of old calendar lining; dad must have used a strong glue.
The middle side drawer will hold Cutting and Binding materials.
The bottom side drawer will hold the Electronics and Others section. I just stuffed in anything that is still important for me. There is a box and a canister of old coins.
This is the desktop. I placed the toiletries and other important items that won't fit in the drawers. It improved a great deal indeed.
Another productive day. After cleaning my study table, I used it to review some past college lessons. Cleaning indeed is a rewarding activity. It makes everything more comfortable. Why do I sound like cleaning and doing chores is something new to me? Well, it's because before, I preoccupied myself with tons of activities which are really important. However, I have a problem with prioritization and time management, so I decided to focus on more important and urgent activities that are related to my studies. I'm so focused on my studies that I forgot to give time to my family, friends, and other activities that matter. Due to the quarantine, however, and maybe because it's also the end of the school year, I gained more time for other things. That's when I decided to make a blog and to do a clean-up with everything I can clean. Thanks to my Operation: Search and Declutter, I was able to remove anything that is not important but eats away space; I removed things that don't give positive energy but rather negative energy. The clean-up is one way of improving myself, as it helped me to be productive and detailed-oriented; these traits are what I needed to hone before I become a Certified Public Accountant.
